I don't approve of George Ryan's conduct as Secretary of State, but I hold a very soft spot for George due to his realization that the flaws in the criminal justice system necessitated a moratorium on the death penalty, and when he commuted all death penalty sentences to life sentences days before leaving office he became a flawed hero to me. Who knows maybe if he hadn't done that, W would have pardoned him.
I never would have voted for Ryan, but he doesn't deserve to share a cell with Blago, that would be cruel and unusual punishment.
Duly noted! About the cell thingy that is... it's not like he would steal Blago's hair gel...
As for Ryan yes what he did regarding the death penalty was admirable in most cases! However, explain that to the family that lost their 6 children in a fiery crash thanks to his ineptness as SOS!
Oh... and then there was the trio convicted by DNA evidence(who he pardoned) of cutting a baby from a woman's womb (while she was alive) and then kidnapping & killing her little boy! I am not PRO death penalty... but sometimes just sometimes I think the punishment needs to fit the crime! And that WAS one of them!
George Ryan's conduct as secretary of state is far more serious than what blago did, a family lost 6 kids when a truck driver lost debris along the highway and this family hit it and the gas tank exploded killing 6 kids. this driver got his licence through bribes and the money went to the campaign of george ryan. last time i checked Blago as stupid as he is never was linked to and deaths.
when he committed all death sentences before leaving office, he should have took the time to exam each case. in one case a man and woman cut a baby from a pregnant woman, killed her 7 year old and tortured his 4 year old, they two needed to die for what they did.
he should have commuted the death sentences for inmates that were interrogated by LT Burge, a Chicago chief of detectives that tortured men in to confusing to crimes they did not commit.
a state senator from Chicago sponsored a bill to video people who are being questioned. his man was Barack Obama!!!!
Blago deserves whatever he gets. The sad part of his story is that here's a guy with an almost photographic memory, who is smart and worked hard to make a place for himself, who promised to clean up after the republican Ryan mess, and instead let the ugly twin greed and power monsters take over.
That was his problem... he thought he was too smart! I'm sad to report that I voted for the narcissist twice! Second time because the toughts of Judy Barr Topinka in the office made me cringe! The only positive thing I can say for him is he passed free CTA/RTA rides for seniors!
Now thanks to him... I have to hold my nose and vote for Pat Quinn in November - cause there's no way in hell I'll pull the lever for the teabagger Bill Brady!
Blago was an idiot too taken with himself and was too quick to try to make an easy buck from his political position. He deserves whatever punishment he gets. Hopefully he'll have to shave his head, that would be the worst punishment of all for him and his anchor hair head.
I take it that the busy First Read crew will get that video montage working sometime soon.
I can't get the video going for some reason. However, I do remember from over the Holidays a video that was put together by First Read on Blago and it was hilarious.
We as a country need to do some serious soul searching; we're putting into office some real dingbats I have to say. Michelle Bachmann and Virginia Fox from I think either NC or SC come to mind immediately. Boehner and McConnell as well. Sometimes when I see them on tv, I just sorta sit there wondering wondering wondering - how did we get to this point?
Thank goodness for elections, family and friends and baseball and football and basketball and books and movies and the best of all - music.
Every circus needs a clown and we have ours as in the Ex-Governor Elvis wanna be!
At least this will keep him & his wife preoccupied and off the reality show circuit!
Lock him up and let him share a cell with George Ryan... who already has the soap on the rope... LOL

Thanks for the back up Jeff!
And a correction to my post above - he didn't pardon them he commuted their sentance.

If we learn nothing else from this, we at least need to learn to hold our politicians' hair to a higher standard.

A person could go nuts.
